Platform Notes
One email a month about one decision from our platform work: what we built or rebuilt, what it cost, and what we would do differently today.
An email address, one tick, done. You then get a mail with a confirmation link, and only that click puts you on the list.
Without JavaScript it works just as well: send us an email with the subject “Subscribe to Platform Notes”. A mail from your own mailbox is the record of your consent.
Your message is ready
It is waiting in your mail client and still has to be sent. After that you get a confirmation mail — only the link in it adds you.
Who this is written for
Written for the person who runs the platform and has to own the decision either way — CTO, technical managing director, lead platform engineer.
No news roundup, no release notes, no trend list. What a vendor shipped this month is on the vendor's blog — this is what we did with it in a real cluster.
What one edition contains
Every edition has the same four parts. Without the first one there is no edition that month.
The decision
One thing we actually decided in the month before, with the reason and the alternatives we turned down.
What it cost
Effort, migration steps, what it costs to keep running. Without this part a decision is an opinion.
Where we were wrong
The assumption that did not hold, and how we noticed. The part a vendor blog does not write.

The long-form field note, the repository or the configuration — exactly one, not ten.
What happens after you subscribe
- You get a mail with a confirmation link straight away. Until you click it you are on no list.
- After the click comes the welcome mail: what the Notes are, when they arrive, and how to get out again.
- Then one edition a month. No sequence, no re-engagement mails, no phone call.
- How often
- One edition a month, fourteen days after the monthly field note it is derived from. In a month without a field note there is no edition — we do not fill the slot.
- First edition
- The first edition has not gone out yet. It goes to everyone who has confirmed by 14 September 2026.
- Language
- Every edition is published in German and in English. Both are written from the same field note, which is written in both languages anyway, and neither is a translation of the other. You get the language you subscribed in.
Unsubscribe
Every edition carries an unsubscribe link at the top; one click is enough. Without an edition to hand, one email to us does it. We take the address off the list within three working days, do not ask why, and send exactly one confirmation afterwards. Unsubscribe from Platform Notes.

Common questions
How often does it arrive?
Once a month, fourteen days after the field note it is derived from. In a month without a field note there is no edition. An empty slot is more honest than a mail with nothing in it.
What is in it, and what is not?
In it: one decision from our work, what it cost, where we were wrong, one link. Not in it: news, release notes, trend lists, third-party advertising, and the field note's own body text.
What data do you get from me?
The email address, the time of your consent and the sentence you consented to. Nothing else. No name, no company, no role, no postal address.
Do you measure whether I open it?
No. There is no counting pixel and no rewritten links. We can see how many addresses are on the list, and nothing else about you.
How do I unsubscribe?
Through the unsubscribe link in every edition, or with an informal email to us. We take the address off the list within three working days. No reason, no account, no follow-up question.
Will subscribing put me into a sales sequence?
No. Subscribing is not an enquiry. Anyone who wants to make one finds the route on every page — it does not start from this list.
Which language will my edition be in?
The one you subscribed in. Every edition is published in German and in English, both written from the same field note.
